CAPTAIN ARNAUD & CHEF/MATE SONIA
Arnaud was born in a little village east of France. He spent the holidays of his childhood on the Mediterranean Sea, learning to sail on Hobie cat and Laser. In his early career choice, Arnaud studied child development psychology. He worked in social centers with troubled kids. His love for children takes him to the tourism industry managing the kids club in Club Med.
There, his passion for sailing took shape. To truly follow his dreams, he moved to the Caribbean island of Martinique in 2008. He sailed around the Caribbean as a professional skipper for 11 years. As freelance captain, he worked for several companies on different types and sizes of boats, chartering, delivering boats along with the West Indies and across the Atlantic.
Learning to speak English was one of his main goals too and being in the Caribbean working with local businesses he achieved that goal, now he’s fluent.
Arnaud is not only passionate about the ocean, but he also loves photography, free diving, hiking, and traveling to different countries to experience their cultural backgrounds.
Sonia grew up in Les Sables d’Olonne, a small town on the French Atlantic coast, where the “Vendée Globe”, this legendary sailing race around the world, sets off.
With solid hotel trade and catering training, she began her professional life in Parisian restaurants before leaving for Saint Barth where she worked in a villa rental agency. She discovered sailing, traveling, and exploring different gastronomies with Thailand, Venezuela, Argentina, New York, San Francisco, and of course, the West Indies.
With a French coast license and STW95 in hand, she started working on the water as a cook for charters in the Caribbean, in the Mediterranean Sea (Corsica, Porquerolles, the creeks of Marseille, etc.). She is also discovering the joy of being a team member on a “round trip” across the Atlantic. When she is in France, she sails on “the Canal du Midi” on her riverboat which is her home. She relishes “home cooking” and she sets her menus according to the preferences and needs of the guests. She adapts her cooking to the diets and wishes of each one while respecting the “eating together” which is for her an important moment of pleasure and sharing on the water. She loves French gastronomy but also local and family cuisine. She masters the work of raw or cooked fish … She is aware of new eating habits (gluten-free, lactose-free…) while respecting a gourmet cuisine adapted to its location.

We had a truly wonderful week of fun, adventure, food, family and friends on Felicia. Our family of six loved our time cruising on and sailing Felicia - she is a very comfortable, spacious stable cat/boat. The crew were incredibly welcoming, willing and available to provide us with any activity, food, or drink that we might be interested in. From snorkeling, wakeboarding and water skiing, paddle boarding and tubing, there was always a fun adventure to be had once we were on the mooring. The captain was always ready to take us in for a good walk/hike or on land workout as well. Or visit to a local beach bar! The chef created a wonderful variety of beautiful meals (and snacks) for our always very hungry crew. The morning tea and coffee was immediate and plentiful and the presentation for each meal was beautiful. In addition, we enjoyed a great dinner on shore for New Years Eve but came back for a better party on the boat, complete with fun decorations, hats, food and drinks. Additionally, the crew created an amazing game night that was a really fun hybrid of charades. We miss Felicia, and her crew. We would certainly love to go back!
Staying on the Felicia yacht was an unbelievably relaxing, beautiful, luxurious experience that I can not recommend highly enough! The crew are warm and hospitable. The crew reached out ahead of time to help personalize our trip to our specifications - learning food preferences to ensure an enticing menu and preferred activities & destinations we’d like to prioritize. The captain is a great leader making sure all aboard are always safe and well-cared for. The chef is an amazing chef (I still dream about some of those meals!) and if we seemed bored after sundown she provided great entertainment with games and karaoke. The boat is spacious both above and below deck. As one of the girls on the trip put it, she felt like we were Kardashians - it’s that next level of luxury that you see on MTV Cribs. Above deck it has at least five distinct areas where you can layout, suntan, read, etc. Even though I was on a boat I was able on more than one occasion to sneak away to one of these spots and get some alone time. The yacht has a surround sound bluetooth speaker system throughout the boat so you can listen to your favorite music both above and below deck and control it from your phone. It comfortably seats 10 for meals, eating outside in the beautiful fresh air. Inside the cabin there is a media room with a large flat screen TV and dvd collection. There is a large comfortable table (like a giant booth) that probably sits over 6, and a bar area. Plus 4 surprisingly large bedrooms, each with their own bathroom, tons of storage and large beds (I’m pretty sure we had a queen). Also, the yacht comes equipped with just about any water activities you could think of - snorkeling gear, paddle boarding, kayaking, tubing, fishing, and water skis are all included. Our time in the BVI was beautiful and magical. We saw gorgeous beaches where the sand was so powdery soft it felt like flour, saw the world-famous Baths, snorkeled in the middle of the ocean were we saw sea turtles and schools of fish from every color of the rainbow, swam in caves, and bar hopped at some really fun places (including a docked boat that is a bar/restaurant). But aside from how beautiful and relaxing this vacation was, one of the best perks for me was that I didn’t have to plan a thing. For me, one of the most stressful parts of vacationing is the logistics - on what days we’ll do what activities and how we’ll get from point A to B. The crew are like your own personal travel agents and take all of that stress off your hands. You just let them know the types of things you’d like to do/see on your trip and where you’d like to visit and they’ll do the hard part. Though you might get sticker shock at the price keep in mind this includes room and board for up to 8 people, three delectable meals a day plus snacks, unlimited alcohol (beer, wine, liquor - The chef makes a mean mudslide), unlimited water sports, transportation between islands, and living in the lap of luxury while you sail on the perfectly aqua water and see & experience some of the most beautiful islands, great snorkeling, and relaxing Island lifestyle. You’ll never want to say bye Felicia.
Thanks so much for a wonderful vacation - it was the best ever and I smile every time I think of the wonderful week. I loved being on Felicia and will definitely do it again. You both made the experience unforgettable and were such great hosts. I love some of the pictures you took and can't wait to see the others. I didn't take any but I know some of the other girls did. I'll keep in touch. I'd rather be on Felicia than in Florida.
Oh we are back to reality! It is amazing how much piles up while we are away, but as always it is good to be home- especially to give Ollie a hug when we come through the door. I know you know how sweet that can be..... We had a fabulous time and are so glad to have experienced Felicia. It is so nice of you to send the recipes, which I know will bring us right back to the West Indies when I make them here at home. Thank you, thank you and good luck with the remainder of your charters and hope that your time in France is productive and relaxing for both of you. The house looks amazing with all your hard work. Enjoy a glass- or two!- of Rose for us.
Thanks for the trip of a lifetime. What beauty you have shown us. Your hospitality was the best ever, man…what a cook!
Definitely this has been by far the best ever sailing experience Flavia & I have had in all senses: the crew unforgettable! The boat outstanding, the scenery just perfect, the sailing incomparable, the food marvelous and especially the care on Flavia’s eating requirements was really appreciated for a whole spectacular trip where we made a new and very special friends which we hope to see again soon.
Thanks so much Julie and Chris! We are going to get stuck into those Painkillers this summer!! Thanks for sending the DVD up to us! I can't wait to see it and Chelsea and Phoebe really want to show it to their class! Very cute! We had an absolutely AMAZING time on Felicia. Thank you so much for everything! You guys are the best! Chelsea and Phoebe are BEGGING us to go back next year -- so we will have to see if we can make that happen.
Thank you so much for a trip of a lifetime. You helped make our 10 year anniversary more than I could have ever dreamed. The food and drinks were "out of this world"! Motion sickness is a "thing of the past". I am sure the captain had a lot to do with it!! Thanks again for your friendship. We look forward to returning to Felicia soon...Many more happy sails. Love ya!
We can’t put into words what an amazing time we have had. Fell in love with beauty and relaxed charm of BVI, but it was the knowledge of the skipper and the hospitality and charm (not to mention fantastic cuisine) of the “Galley Slaves” that made is such a special New Years experience. We thought the week in the BVI on FELICIA exceeded all expectations. Chris was undoubtably not only a skipper who knew how to master the yacht, but had an intimate knowledge of the islands and reefs. Julie was a great cook, utterly charming and all our children adored her and the ‘mate’ Kris. All in all, a fantastic experience, the yacht and crew were brilliant! Thank You!!!
