While luxurious accommodations and gourmet meals are certainly highlights, water toys can play an important part in your crewed yacht charter. From adrenaline thrills to more leisurely activities, they add an extra layer of enjoyment to your charter journey.
Being in an amazing location, only accessible by yacht, and having the freedom to enjoy water activities above and below the water is a unique experience.

Let’s dive into some popular water toys that can transform your yacht experience.
What Types of Water Toys?
Tender
Tenders (Rigid Inflatable Boats known as Dinghies) are essential for reaching shore when anchored. However, they can also double as fun water toys! All crewed charter yachts have a dinghy, which will take you ashore for some beach fun or land excursions. They also serve as your water sports vehicle, where you can be towed behind for tubing, kneeboarding, wakeboarding, water skiing, or just cruising along beautiful coves.
Snorkel Gear
Exploring the underwater world is an amazing experience. Your crew can guide you to the best snorkeling spots, whether it’s a vibrant coral reef or exploring a secluded bay. Some yachts have underwater cameras to capture the experience.
SCUBA Diving
Some yachts offer SCUBA diving onboard – most will have 3 dives included in a charter of 6 nights or more, and then any additional dives can be paid for at the discretion of the captain. Some offer Open Water PADI qualifications, where you could complete your e-learning and confined water skills before your charter, and finish the open water dives on your charter. If you would like to dive and your crewed yacht does not offer this, they can organize rendezvous dives with a local dive school for you.
Paddleboards and Kayaks
For a more tranquil experience, stand-up paddleboards and kayaks are excellent choices. They allow you to explore calm bays, coastlines, and hidden beaches at your own pace. Additionally, they’re great for fitness and provide an opportunity to connect with nature. Most crewed yachts have these readily available.
Wakeboards, Kneeboards and Water Skis
If you’re looking to showcase your skills or learn something new, wakeboarding and water skiing are fantastic options. These activities provide a perfect blend of fun and fitness. With a skilled crew member at the helm, you can be towed behind the tender (dinghy), enjoying the thrill of gliding over waves and performing tricks.
Towable Tube and others
These round or rectangular-shaped tubes can accommodate one or more. Towed on a long line from the yacht’s tender, hours of fun can be had riding the waves, holding on, and trying not to come off!
e-Foil Board
An e-Foil, or electric hydrofoil board, allows you to glide above the water with minimal effort. It works with an electric motor to power a propeller, which propels the board forward. You can control the motor using a remote control to adjust the speed and power.
Underwater Sea scooters and SeaBobs
Underwater scooters and SeaBobs offer an exciting way to explore underwater. These electric devices allow you to glide effortlessly through the water, making it easier to discover marine life without the need for fins or extensive swimming skills.
Floating Island
For families and groups, floating islands provide hours of entertainment. They’re perfect for socializing, sunbathing, or just having fun splashing around. These inflatable toys can be anchored near the yacht, allowing everyone to enjoy the sun and water.
Jet Ski
Jet Skis may be part of a larger vessel’s water toy collection. These fun watercraft are a great way to explore further afield from your crewed yacht. Please note that Jet Skis are not allowed to be used in the BVI. If chartering a yacht in Croatia, a license is required to drive a jet ski.
Kiteboarding and Wing Foiling
Some yachts offer kiteboarding and wing foiling equipment. Kiteboarding involves riding on a board while being towed by a large controllable kite. The kite is flown in the wind and will propel the rider across the water. Wing foiling involves riding a board with a hydrofoil, while holding a wing, which is similar to a small sail, held by the rider.
Other Toys
- Slide – some larger yachts have an inflatable slide
- Hobie Cat – a small sailing catamaran
- Subwing – This water toy consists of two wings that the rider holds onto while being towed by the dinghy. The rider can manoeuvre the wings deeper down in the water or closer to the surface.
- Flyboard – a water jet-powered board that gains throttle by diverting the water output from a connected jet ski, propelling you high above the water.
