St. Martin & St. Barts Sample Itinerary

Day 1

After arriving at the international airport (SXM) on the Dutch side of St. Maarten, you will take a taxi to your yacht waiting at a nearby marina located in the protected lagoon. A brief safety talk followed by a walk through of your luxury charter yacht leaves you free to settle in and enjoy a light lunch on board. The Captain will need your passports to do a customs clearance before the yacht can leave the lagoon via a drawbridge. Then it is off to a secluded anchorage with a spectacular sunset while you sip on your cocktails.

Day 2

After a hearty breakfast, the sails are hoisted and you begin your day sitting on the foredeck and soaking up the sun. The Tradewinds are cool and after rounding the tip of the island, you see Anguilla appear on the horizon. The Captain drops anchor and everyone takes a ride ashore in the tender for the Customs check-in. Take a taxi tour of this long island and visit some of the historical sites, like very old rum distilleries, famous resorts like Cap Jaluka or listen to Jazz on the beach at Johnno’s at Sandy Ground anchorage. Dinner is served by your private chef in the cockpit dining area and the dessert looks mouth-watering.

Day 3

Trawl the fishing lines and see what bites as you sail over to little outlying deserted islands like Dog Island, Prickly Pear and Sandy Island. This is a wonderful snorkeling spot with crystal clear water and vibrantly colored reefs. After lunch you can spend some time lazing on the beach or explore nearby rocky islands or do some wakeboarding or kneeboarding on the leeward side of the island. The shallow waters are ideal for small children to play and build a sandcastle. Hoist the sails and enjoy a leisurely sail over to Little Bay where cocktails on the tiny beach at sunset is a must do.

Day 4

This morning you can sail over to Maundays bay or Rendezvous bay on the Southern side of Anguilla. Swim in and stroll the beach to the nearby resort of Cap Juluca while your private chef prepares another delicious lunch onboard. After a check in on the French site of St. Martin and browsing the streets markets of Marigot, your yacht moves to the very French village of Grand Case. Enjoy a fabulous authentic dinner ashore and dance the night away in one of the clubs lining the streets of this popular little town.

 Day 5

After a lazy morning at anchor with maybe a Yoga session on the foredeck or a bit of paddleboarding, motor sail over to the nearby island of Tintamarre, where a another beautiful beach awaits. Here you can dig out some mud from the pools and smear all over your body. Wait for it to dry and run into the ocean and feel rejuvenated. After lunch onboard, sail onward to the extinct volcanic caldera of Ile Fourchue with a very protected anchorage. There are a few excellent Scuba diving sites nearby and the scenery is just wonderful.

Day 6

Swim in or take the tender ashore to explore this unique Caribbean island. With the black sand beach and arid landscape it feels like you may have arrived on another planet. A nearby dive offers some of the best Scuba diving in the Caribbean with a huge variety of fish, eagle rays and beautiful coral. Hike to the peaks and enjoy 360° views of the surrounding islands and of your private charter yacht anchored way below. A short motor-sail takes you to the quaint port of Gustavia on St. Barts. Here you can stroll along the very European harbor with boutique shops and even the famous restaurant where Jimmy Buffett’s “Cheeseburger in Paradise” originated while your Captain clear the boat in with the Customs house. Now it is time to choose to stay the rest of the day here and rent mopeds for a tour of the island or motor to the nearby bay of Anse de Colombier where you can hike from one beach to another along a scenic trail.

Day 7

Spend the morning snorkeling the nearby reefs and then after a Caribbean lunch sail downwind to St. Maarten. This will be a little longer sail, but sitting on the bow seat with the wind in your hair makes the trip feels too short. Arrive at Phillipsburg, which is the Cruise ship destination and take in the colorful sites of the busy streets lined with duty-free shopping and souvenirs. After about an hour’s sail and timing it perfectly, you pass through the drawbridge leading you by the yacht club where envious patrons look as yachts return to the lagoon. Tonight you can choose to stay onboard or venture out to the many attractions of Simpson Bay or surrounding harbors with great restaurants, casinos and clubs.

Day 8

Enjoy a slow morning watching boats come and go and after saying farewell to your friendly crew, leave for the airport via taxi while you are already planning your next trip back to St. Maarten.
