When is the Best Time to Go on a Crewed Yacht Charter?

We take a look at the best time of year to experience a crewed yacht charter in each of our Epic destinations.

The Virgin Islands

Crewed yacht charters take place from November through to July in the Virgin Islands

Temperatures tend to be in the 70°s F in the winter months and in the 80°s F in the summer months. Being a subtropical climate short intense showers, followed by warm sunshine can occur at any time of year, but rain is higher in the fall.

Peak season is December through to April, when it is dry with lower chances of rain. The water is calm and crystal clear, perfect for snorkeling and diving. The trade winds are consistent, so ideal for sailing. This is also the busiest time, so it is advisable to book your crewed yacht charter at least 6 months or more in advance to secure your preferred dates. May, June and July are warmer months and tend to be less busier.

Yachts do not charter during August, September and October because of hurricane season. During these months the crew take their break for a few weeks and then return to get all the yearly maintenance done. During the first 2 weeks of November there are 2 boats shows, one in the BVI and one in the USVI. Most of the crewed yachts will be involved in the shows and this is the time that us, the brokers, go and view the yachts and meet the crews to make sure that we are happy to recommend them to you.

The Exumas – Bahamas

The best time to charter in the Bahamas is generally during the winter and spring months. Between November and March, the temperatures range between 70°F -75°F with an occasional windy cold front. The water will be cooler than the summer months but the visibility is at its best allowing for amazing snorkeling and diving.

April and May are great months to charter as it is warm but not too hot. June, July, and August are warmer months with temperatures ranging from 80°F to early 95°F. Humidity in summer is higher with occasional rainfall. Yachts tend not to charter during September and October.

Santorini, Greece

Yacht charters in Greece run from May until October. With a typical Mediterranean climate, expect cooler and often wet winters and dry, warm summers. Temperatures during charter season tend to range from 70°F in May to the 95°F in August and then start to get cooler. The warmest and busiest times in the Greek Islands are July and August.

St Vincent and The Grenadines

A small number of yachts will head to St Vincent and The Grenadines after they have finished their charters in the Virgin Islands. The yachts that head down to these islands will charter during July, August and September. The temperatures are pretty consistant throughout the year with average daily high temperatures between 78°F – 85°F. July and August are the wettest months but as soon as the rain starts it stops, leaving warm sunshine.

Grenadines

St. Martin and st. Barts

St. Martin and St. Bart have a tropical climate with warm temperatures throughout the year. The average temperatures range 77°F in the winter months to 86°F in the summer months. Dry season is December to April and rainy season from May to November. During dry season expect plenty of sunshine, low humidity, and very little rainfall. The rainy season brings more frequent showers but there is still plenty of sunshine. Just like the BVI, charters run from November to July.
