Cooper Island in the beautiful British Virgin Islands was formerly known as Bergen Island when it belonged to the Sweden-Norway administration until 1905.
Today, this gem lays in the chain of islands stringing along the Sir Francis Drake channel. The protected bay is perfect for charter yachts to stop over for a lunch or even happy hour and dinner at the newly renovated Cooper Island Beach Club, which is a laid-back luxe eco-resort sitting shoreside in the British Virgin Islands. And the New Rum Bar & Microbrewery stocked with 180 different varieties is only one of the many reasons to visit this quaint island resort with restaurant and shops and if you want to spend more time in the BVI after your charter they have newly renovated beachside bungalows.
The Coffee Box serves freshly made coffee, homemade ice cream, and gelato — perfect for a mid-morning stop before heading back out on the water.
Manchioneel Bay is one of the Department of Conservation & Fisheries’ Sea Grass monitoring sites and crucial to the health of the marine environment. Yachts pick up a mooring ball and from here you can swim to the beach or the crew will take you ashore to one of the dinghy docks. The bay was named after the Manchioneel tree, which produces poisonous fruit, so do not feel tempted to try local tree fruit without guidance from your crew.

On your luxury charter yacht vacation, Cooper Island Beach Club is a popular overnight or lunch stop. There are quite a lot of mooring balls which makes it very easy to get you close to the fantastic on-site restaurant, and lively rum bar. Cooper Island is more than just a pit stop. Its 10 eco-luxe guest rooms and laid-back atmosphere attract honeymooning couples and families with young children.
This very accessible island offers protection from stronger trade-winds. Nearby is Cistern point where the snorkeling is rewarding after your captain will tie the tender to a small mooring ball and if you feel like it, snorkel back to the yacht and look out for the abundance of Hawksbill turtles feeding on the grassy seabed.
From this protected beach, it may be more convenient to leave non-divers ashore while your dive-master or dive company ashore take you to Salt Island nearby for one of the best Scuba dives in the Caribbean. Explore Wreck Alley – Marie L is a cargo boat that was sunk – along with the Pat and the Beata – with the sole purpose of creating excellent underwater scenery for divers; located on the south-western side of Cooper Island, this site is very close to a reef wall magnificently coated with some of the most vibrant colored corals.

WOW...what an unforgettable 8 days in the British Virgin Islands! Our group of seven had the absolute best time aboard the Awatea catamaran! The crew were wonderful hosts and so accommodating. They really are true professionals and enjoy taking care of their guests.
Every day felt like a postcard—turquoise water, hidden coves, incredible snorkeling, beach bars, island hopping, and sunsets that didn't even look real. We swam with sea turtles, ate like we were in a fine dining establishment, laughed until our stomachs hurt, soaked up the sunshine, and made memories we'll be talking about for years.
The catamaran was beautiful, comfortable, and had plenty of space for all of us to spread out, relax, or hang out together. I loved the sustainability efforts with the fresh herbs and solar panels, and nothing went to waste. There was never a dull moment, but it was also the perfect place to kick back with a drink and enjoy the amazing views. There was Wi-Fi available, if we needed it. This allowed us to keep in contact with our loved ones back home and to share the experiences in real time.
One of the unexpected highlights was having front row seats to the 2026 BVI Spring Regatta & Sailing Festival. I had never experienced something like this before and it took my breath away.
The best part was being able to unplug and enjoy the experience. Every day brought a new island, another amazing place to explore, see and do new things some of us had never done. Every stop seemed better than the last, and the entire experience was seamless from beginning to end.
If you're even thinking about chartering a catamaran in the BVI—DO IT with Awatea! It's the perfect mix of adventure, relaxation, and nonstop fun. This wasn't just a vacation; it was one of the best experiences we've ever had. Easy 5 stars, and we will always remember this amazing trip!

There were eight of us on this trip and we definitely came ready to have fun. The crew managed our group like total pros attentive, upbeat, and always one step ahead. The yacht was spotless and beautifully put together.
We tried so many new water activities and had amazing instructors guiding us through everything. It never felt rushed or intimidating. What really stood out was how smoothly the entire trip was organized. Every time we headed to a beach bar or needed a taxi, the crew personally introduced us and made sure we were taken care of. We never had to think — just relax and enjoy.
